Online Advertising in Argentina, winds of change 2007

There is no doubt that the Internet in Argentina is changing and a lot in 2007. Google arrived, MSN gets stronger, new news sites are launched, social net are growing and sites with contents generated by users, adnetworks are back and stronger than ever, blog nets  are built, media centrals are building digital departments and there will be a lot of events (Ojobuscador, AMDIA 2.0, IAB , CAA, CACE, CACEM) related to digital marketing in Buenos Aires this year.


 Exception to the rule


 Historically we have always been surprised by how the advertising pie is distributed in Argentina among the media in reference to display advertising: Online versions of newspapers and online news sites accumulate at least 50% of participation in the distributed pie. This does not happen in Europe or USA.


 I believe that the main reason why this phenomena happened is the lack of presence from the big international players. With the exception of Yahoo, who’s been strong for seven years and Terra, today leader as photolog platform in Spanish, we can remember how AOL came and left and how only this year MSN will be a main character.


 This amazing display of powers mentioned at the beginning, will surely help the pie to grow and it will certainly change its distribution making this historic exception to change. As Marcelo is always saying “the Money goes where the audience goes” and the most visited sites will have the part of the pie that belongs to them.


 We hope that advertisers will answer the call.

Directa Networks video in You Tube had more than 1,000,000 views.

Directa Networks video in YouTube went over the million views in three months after launching and it is one of the most viewed video in its category.

 

 

This was born as an experiment about what we could do with this new media and to explore other viral marketing options. Right now it went over the boldest expectations that we could have, being even linked from Japanese sites.

It is very clear that it is very complicated to forecast what will happen, who will be the target receiving the material, its impact and the public response, but on the other hand: How much are 1,000,000 spectators in an 8-minute spot (not 30 seconds) on open television?
